Mutt vs. Purebred Dogs
72Dogs in general make for wonderful companions. Various breeds have their own sets of temperments, attitudes, and personalities, so you'll want to take that into consideration when choosing what kind of dog to get.
If you are thinking about getting a dog from the pet store or a breeder, take into consideration what this will mean. Oftentimes these will be expensive animals, and while it is nice to know about your animal's background (who the parents are and so on), purebred dogs also come with another price which has a much larger affect than the initial monetary costs: because these dogs have been interbred with each other, they are much more succeptable to disease. Think about the quality of life that your dog will have, and how this will affect you as well. After all, you are getting your dog for the rest of his or her life. You need to definitely think about the longterm consequences. In addition, some purebred dogs can have nasty attitudes, so you will want to do your research if you do choose to go the purebred route.
Mutts, on the other hand, are usually dogs from the humane society in desparate need of a home. They do not cost an enormous amount and they will not usually be scarred by any past experiences; most mutts are very forgiving even if they had a hard life on the street or suffered from abuse before going to the humane society. Because these dogs are mixtures of several different breeds, they are much less likely to be succeptable to disease the way that purebreeds are. Along these same lines, mutts have fairly good dispositions and you can be sure that each one has their own unique personality! From a completely aesthetic point of view, mutts are also very cute with their different markings and features.
This is not to say that purebred dogs are unattractive or mean- I have met many lovely purebred dogs with sparkling personalities. However, they often do develop health problems at some point down the road. In my own experiences of working at vet clinics and seeing many different animals, I would definitely get a mutt over a purebred- by getting a mutt, you aren't spending excessive amounts of money, it is often a dog that really needs a loving home, and usually they will be healthier all around. Whatever kind of dog you choose, I suggest doing research on the place you get your dog from and also on the breed- but in the end, go with your gut instinct! If you fall in love with a dog and the two of you just "click", then that is likely the special companion for you.

Hello! I have an Airdale and she is the cutest dog int the entire univesre so no one else has a chance to be as cute as this dog!!! She is not shaved like they have them for shows she is fluffy!!!
I LOVE BRIDGET MY PUPPY!
mutts are the way to go they are always so cute and they will always have the best personalitys. pitbulls mixs are great dogs too i have met so many that end up being the coolest most friendly loving dogs ever.
Purebreeds are the best if you need to know how the dog will be (a family with kids). You never know what is in a mutt and they could have dog that isn't good with kids mixed in with them. Its not ture at all that mutts are always cute and always have a good temper. I know looks of mean mutts. My purebreed rottie is the best with everyone! The only time he is ever "mean" is when the guy next door starts coming into the yard trying to mess with me.
Absolutely agree with the "no pet store" advice for purebreds. The dogs can be sick, and usually come from Puppy Mills
I have a Mutt, but a cute mutt, she is a mini foxy cross Australian cattle dog. She is small like a mini foxy but she has the speed and the colour of a cattle dog. SHE IS CUTER THEN ALL OF YOUR DOGS. I am a huge fan like HUGELY huge fan of dogs but i just dislike poodles, shih tzus, maltise and thats it i think all other dogs are cute :3 :L
We have to put our 4 year old Golden Retriever down, maybe today. She has cancer. Through this horrible experience, I have learned that purebreds are often inbred, and that often leads to health problems, namely cancer. No more purebreds for us, even from the shelter.
I agree with the disliking of poodles, they are the weirdest, poshest.... things on earth
i DON'T like them. another one are chiwawas, they really yelp and make a lot of noise. they just drive me crazy :Z
i like border collies and golden retrievers and Labrador and a lot more. :)
In defense of the chihuahua I have a lovely chihuahua she is not yelpy or noisy. She is affectionate and friendly. I can not stress the need to socialize small dogs from puppy hood With people as well as other animals. Most small dogs are yelpy or nippy out of fear. Socializing them young helps reduce the tendency.
i love poodles !! whats so bad about them???????????????
but i also like german shepherds and huskies!:)
Most dog owners view their own dogs has the very best and thats a cute thing. thats just being a loving master. I have two mutts and I wouldnt trade them for any fancy purebred in the world. That doesnt mean I dislike purebreeds. All dogs are beautyfull and deserve a loving home. I did not choose my mutts they chose me. I was not in search of a pet let alone two. But these two loving creatures had all the risks of getting hit by a car or even getting poisoned. I felt I owed it to them to save them from all that, taking into account that they saved me from my own depresion while working midnight shifts and having them always by my side. So in the end, in spite of all the breed background info and mutts previous lifestyle. a dog will only be has good has you treat it.
I have a poodle and a chihuahua and both of them are great dogs they love everybody and are great with other dogs. I never like poodles either until I started grooming then I ended up with a Standard and a tiny tea cup. My chih is not yappy either! I love all breeds, they all have their own purpose. I also have 2 mutts, they are the healthier out of my four. I think people are getting sloppy and over breeding their dogs.
well i have a lab and they both are really great dogs and i love them both a lot.i really never like my dogs till i got 2 know them more and they also started 2 become more sexy.every time i walk my dogs they take a big fat shit and its hella gross but i love them

Never, EVER get a purebred puppy or cat from a pet store. Responsible breeders NEVER sell their animals to pet stores...ever. Responsible pet stores do not sell purebred puppies or kittens. If they have puppies or kittens at all it should be in a rescue situation in cooperation with a local shelter or rescue. I would even go as far as to say do not even patrionize pet stores who sell pure bred cats or dogs. When you do you are supporting bad breeders and even puppy/cat mills.
